Cyberpunk 2077’s map is horizontally the same size or smaller than games like The Witcher 3, but its sprawling cities make the verticality and area much denser.
In terms of the pure width of the map, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t break any records. From what has been shown, the districts within the game seem relatively tame in size and could even be smaller than the map of The Witcher 3.
However, that doesn’t tell the whole story. When it comes to usable space, Cyberpunk 2077 may surprise a lot of gamers on launch day.
Cyberpunk 2077 map and districts
CD Projekt Red has spent a lot of time developing Night City and making it a vibrant city to play with. Even if the entire map is not necessarily as wide as other maps in recent games, it should be much more vibrant.
Much of Night City is based on a dense city with all kinds of cultural differences. Considering the verticality and interior space on the Cyberpunk 2077 map, it is highly likely that there is more playable space to explore in the game compared to The Witcher 3.
Choose a game like This Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, for example. Skyrim may not hit the maps in other games in terms of pure landmass. But if all the dungeons and buildings are taken into account, the map becomes much denser and more expansive as a collective.
Much of Cyberpunk will likely be spent inside the Night City buildings. The developers at CD Projekt Red have talked about it before, and it even affected the players’ point of view in Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher series was always in the third person, and CD Projekt Red had contemplated the same for Cyberpunk 2077.
However, due to the time they spent inside the main buildings and the nature of the dense city that players would have to traverse, CD Projekt Red took the first-person route.
There will be six city districts in Night City and additional surroundings to explore within the desert. Districts include City Center, Heywood, Westbrook, Pacifica, Watson, and Santo Domingo. One final district, or section of the Cyberpunk 2077 map, is Badlands. The Badlands is the section of the desert that will have more horizontal space than vertical space unlike the rest of the city.
