Realme today unveiled its first smartphone of 2021 in China. Dubbed the Realme V15 5G, it is a successor to last year’s 5G-enabled Realme V5. It has important updates to the screen, the camera, and the cargo front. There is also a newer MediaTek 5G chipset on board.
Realme V15 5G Specifications
Starting with the design, Realme V15 5G doesn’t look much different from its predecessor. The Koi fish color gradient that is achieved through a double coating process, along with the huge ‘Dare to Leap’ slogan on the back makes it stand out. However, if you don’t like the flashy gradient or the massive text, there are also minimal black and blue variants available for the Realme V15. The smartphone is just 8.1mm thick and weighs 176 grams, which is pretty good compared to many current-generation phones that weigh over 200 grams.
Realme V15 features a 6.4-inch Full-HD + Super AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch response rate. It is an update on the IPS LCD panel present on board the Realme V5. But this lack of a greater refresh rate is disappointing. It also has a 16MP punch-hole selfie camera at this top left.
Realme V15 also comes equipped with a new MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G chipset compared to the Dimensity 720 onboard its predecessor. It features 5G dual SIM, dual-mode smart 5G support, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of storage. This device runs the company’s latest Realme UI 2.0 skin based on Android 11.
The triple camera system on the rear is driven by a 64MP primary sensor. This is an update on the 48MP sensor on board of its predecessor. You’ll also find an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 119-degree FOV and a 2MP macro lens onboard the Realme V15. The cameras here support 4K video recording, 1080p videos at 120fps, UIS Max stabilization, and much more.
Realme V15 appears with a 4,310 mAh battery with 50 W SuperDart fast charging support. It’s an improvement over the 30 W charging speed offered by its predecessor. The company boasts that it can fully charge the battery in less than 35 minutes with this charging technology. However, you do get a 65W fast charger in the box.
The device also includes a 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.1, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi to round out the connectivity options.
Price and availability
Realme V15 is priced starting at CNY 1,399 (~ Rs. 15,850) for the basic 6GB + 128GB variant. You’ll have to shell out CNY 1,999 (~ Rs. 22,650) for the 8GB + 128GB variant. It is absurd that you have to pay close to Rs. 7,000 for additional RAM.
The smartphone will be available in three color combinations, namely Koi, Mirror Lake Blue, and Crescent Silver. It can be reserved today and will go on sale from January 14 in China. There is currently no information on whether or not it will arrive in India.
