At tech giants like Apple, Samsung introduces new smartphones to this market, numerous small manufacturers in China release fake phones based on the real ones. Sometimes even before the launch of the devices. So, according to a recent report, the companies that have the fakest smartphones under their brands include Samsung, Apple, and Huawei.
This report comes from the Chinese publication CNBeta also reveals that Samsung is the most popular brand among fake smartphone manufacturers. The report used data from the benchmarking platform AnTuTu. It claims that the platform identified 5,72,303 fake smartphones from March 2020 to February 2021. This represents around 4.24% of the total smartphones inspected on the platform.
The Korean giant also ranked first in this regard in 2019. According to the report, the number of fake smartphones of a particular brand is directly proportional to the popularity of that brand in the market. As a result, the top six companies with the fakest smartphones under their names include Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor.
Apart from this, the report also shows the smartphones with the most copycat devices. The number one smartphone that more than 66,000 fake devices were based on is the Huawei P10. It is followed by Apple’s iPhone X in second place, with nearly 16,500 fake devices under its name.
Furthermore, with the rise of 5G-based smartphones, fake smartphone manufacturers have also started labeling their devices with 5G. However, these devices are not 5G compliant and only display the 5G logo for the psychological comfort of users. This is because these devices include very old processors such as the Helio P23 or the MT6737 that do not support 5G connectivity. The number of fake 5G devices, according to the report, rose to 45,289 this year.
